“We’ve doubled the amount that we were projecting to see in three years within two years.” By Makenzie Huber, South Dakota Searchlight More than 11,500 South Dakotans hold medical marijuana cards two years after medical cannabis became legal in South Dakota. That’s well ahead of projections made by the state when the program first started in 2021, said Jennifer Seale, the state Department of Health’s medical cannabis program administrator. The state began issuing cards in November 2021 after South Dakotans voted to legalize medical marijuana in 2020. Originally, the state had anticipated 6,000 cardholders by 2024, Seale told members of…
“Its decision to ‘void’ previously awarded licenses without following the Legislature’s—and its own—clearly established rules and regulations, exceeds and violates the statutory authority it has been granted” By Alander Rocha, Alabama Reflector A medical cannabis company sued the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission (AMCC) on Monday, alleging the AMCC cannot revoke licenses and that its exercise of power “both exceeds and conflicts with the authority provided to it by the Alabama Legislature.” Verano Holdings, a Chicago-based company with an Alabama chapter, received an integrated facility in the first round of awards in June. It did not get a license in a…
“Youth smoking rates in Washington State have significantly decreased, but more work is needed.” By Timothy Schumann, The Center Square The Washington State Department of Health has announced $1.3 million in funding to 11 different community-based organizations to be spent on “youth cannabis and commercial tobacco use prevention.” “Nine out of 10 smokers start before age 18 and 99 percent start before age 26. Youth smoking rates in Washington State have significantly decreased, but more work is needed,” according to the Tuesday Department of Health news release. The Center Square reached out to the Department of Health about the source…
No, that is not a typo. Rare, designer cannabis products have been popping up more and more in the last couple of years. If you haven’t yet come across one of these super heady black miron jars in the wild, that’s because they’re very hard to find and typically only available in, dare I say, small batches. The first time one of my friends, who is about as heady as they come, told me he willingly paid $1,500 for an ounce of flower my jaw hit the floor. I could not fathom a world in which somebody with access to…
“DeSantis has taken a far more extremist position in his run for president, adopting a full-tilt Reefer Madness approach to marijuana rhetoric and policy.” By: Justin Strekal, BOWL PAC Believe it or not, Ron DeSantis used to be one of the coolest Republicans when it came to weed. Unfortunately, spineless Ron DeSantis has capitulated and fallen in line with the majority of his fellow career-politician Republican prohibitionists. The facts show he is now squarely opposed to the super-majority of Americans (including a majority of Republican voters) who support legalization. This is yet another reason why he must not be elected…
Americans consider marijuana to be less harmful than alcohol, cigarettes, vapes and other tobacco products, according to new data from Gallup. And at the same time, cannabis use has “surpassed cigarette usage in the U.S., while vaping still trails both,” the polling firm says. The survey represents a continuation of a years-long trend, with American adults increasingly abandoning cigarettes as awareness of their public health risks expands. The data shows an opposite trend for marijuana, with perceptions of harm decreasing as more states legalize its use and more adults identify as active consumers. Respondents were asked about seven different substances…
“I use it in my healing process,” Conway says while puffing on a tightly rolled blunt at home, following a nearly three week stint in the hospital and two surgeries on his leg. “It helped with both my injuries…when I broke my leg and when I got shot. And it helped with dealing with my mom’s open heart surgery.” Throughout his career, Conway has overcome physical and mental challenges and cannabis has always been there to help him heal. After charting number one on the iTunes Hip-Hop charts with his latest album Won’t He Do It in May and just…
The top Democrat in the Wisconsin Senate has released a marijuana policy “zine” featuring information and cartoon illustrations about the state’s ongoing prohibition of cannabis as neighboring jurisdictions adopt legalization. Senate Minority Leader Melissa Agard (D), who has long championed marijuana reform within the recalcitrant conservative legislature, published the magazine online on Friday, part of a renewed effort to draw attention to the issue as she prepares to introduce another statewide legalization bill this session. The zine, titled “Let’s Legalize It, Wisconsin,” says the policy change “offers boundless positive impacts for Wisconsin that we must take advantage of rather than…
Welcome back, friends. If it seems like the whole world is crumbling around you right now, know that you’re not alone. It is. Summer’s in full swing and temperatures are running hot, and that’s not just due to the weather. Or the Hurriquake! Times are just tough, and across the industry I see more OGs struggling right now than ever before. Even worse, opportunists trying to pick off whatever meat is left on your carcass are circling overhead. Things are looking and feeling grim, but remember, it’s always the darkest before dawn. Hopefully the metaphorical Sun will rise again soon……
Two top state elected officials—one Democrat, one Republican—are calling on the federal government to move forward on psychedelics reform, saying the opportunity to improve the lives of people with PTSD and other ailments shouldn’t boil down to partisan politics. “I try to tell people this isn’t partisan at all. Let’s take our labels away on this one,” former Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) said in a new documentary from Reason. “This is about humankind. This is about taking care of individuals. This is about saving lives. This is about giving people their lives back.” Despite claiming the issue shouldn’t be…
