Finnish authorities have banned the sale of hexahydrocannabinol (HHC), a hemp-derived cannabinoid that has popped up in concentrated form as an alternative to marijuana in some European countries over the past several months. The Finnish Medicines Agency (Fimea) said the ban was necessary because the products, which are in a legal gray area, do not undergo quality control and could carry dangerous contaminants as a result of processing. The agency also said it is not always clear where HHC products sold on the European market are manufactured. HHC is a minor cannabinoid that occurs naturally in minuscule amounts in industrial…

The Texas House of Representatives has given initial approval a bill that would allow doctors to recommend medical marijuana to patients as an opioid alternative for chronic pain, bringing it one step closer to final passage in the chamber. The legislation from Rep. Stephanie Klick (R)—which would also replace the THC cap that was established under the state’s existing limited medical cannabis law—cleared the chamber in a 121-23 vote on second reading Tuesday. It needs to be approved one more time in the House before potentially moving to the Senate. This vote also comes weeks after a separate House panel…

A coalition of Pennsylvania community groups is seeking to intervene in a federal lawsuit on the legality of safe drug consumption sites, saying that they fear the government “may imminently abandon” the case. Twenty local organization filed a motion to intervene as party-plaintiffs on Tuesday, asking a federal district court to allow them to step in out of concern that the Department of Justice plans to back off of the lawsuit it filed under the Trump administration, which blocked the establishment of a safe consumption facility in Philadelphia where people could use currently illicit drugs in a medically supervised setting.…

As Maryland’s governor prepares to sign a marijuana sales bill that passed the legislature over the weekend, lawmakers have approved a separate measure to prevent police from using the odor or possession of cannabis alone as the basis of a search. The legislation from Del. Charlotte Crutchfield (D), which passed the House with amendments last month, cleared the Senate in a 27-20 vote on Monday with one additional revision. It then went back to the House, which concurred with the change and passed it in a 101-36 vote, with just minutes left in the legislative session. It states that a…

“There’s no assumption that if I’m buying a 48-pack of beer, I must be doing something illicit with it afterwards.” By Dana Gentry, Nevada Current Lawmakers in Carson City are considering a measure that would more than double the amount of cannabis recreational users can possess and dispensaries can sell at one time. It would also eliminate a blanket ban on employment in the industry for certain people with felony convictions and give regulators discretion on their applications. “At some point you’ve served your time,” Democratic Sen. Dallas Harris told the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee Monday, adding the inability…

The federal government is relying on “startling and dangerous” arguments to defend banning medical marijuana patients from owning firearms, attorneys argued in their latest filing in an ongoing federal appeals case. Weeks after the Justice Department submitted its brief to the court, asserting that lifting the ban would have “wide-ranging” unintended consequences, attorneys representing Florida medical cannabis patients filed their response last week, disputing the government’s position point-by-point. Many of the areas of legal disagreement are familiar to those who’ve followed the case over the past year. Plaintiffs are asking the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit to…

The word hash or “hashish” is a bit arbitrary like most cannabis terminology but it generally refers to ice water hash or “bubble” hash and hash rosin. It’s a concentrated form of cannabis made without the use of chemical solvents like butane and in its highest quality form it can be dabbed or vaporized for, in my opinion, the best possible experience the cannabis plant has to offer. I’ve been smoking hash for several years and I actually don’t smoke flower much at all anymore. I’m a recovering benzodiazepine/opiate/anything else available addict and dabbing hash rosin is the only medicine…

A ban on delta-8 THC appears likely in Arkansas while restrictions on the psychoactive hemp-derived substance have been averted for now in Georgia. The Arkansas Senate voted last week to send Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders a bill that would outlaw the production and sale of all intoxicating substances derived from industrial hemp, approving the measure on a 30-1 vote after the Senate accepted two amendments made by the state’s House of Representatives. The bill, which bans all synthetic THC, is aimed at protecting children who are targets of marketing for such products, said Sen. Tyler Dees, a Republican from Siloam…

Connecticut saw a record $22 million in combined recreational and medical marijuana sales last month, preliminary state data released on Monday shows. March marked the third month since adult-use cannabis sales launched in the state, and there’s been a familiar upward trend in these early months of the rollout. Medical marijuana purchases are still outpacing recreational sales, with the more established patient market bringing in about $12.6 million and the newer industry seeing $9.6 million in cannabis commerce for the month. Notably, sales increased in both categories: medical marijuana purchases increased by about $1.2 million compared to February, and adult-use…
