It’s game time—do you have everything ready? The wings. The nachos. And plenty of ice for the bong. We love our bongs almost as much as our favorite team. We collect them, splurge on them, and even gift them. Joints are great, but a good bong combines the fun of a session and the joy of a personal experience. Think of it as the weed equivalent of when you get cupcakes at a birthday party. With bong rips, one nug can put the whole crew on cloud nine, and we’ve all seen someone get tossed right into the pool after…

Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke once wrote: “For one human being to love another human being: That is perhaps the most difficult task that has been entrusted to us, the ultimate task, the final test and proof, the work for which all other work is merely preparation.”  In the early, oxytocin-saturated days of a new romance, loving another human being might seem all too easy. Later down the track, however, when the infatuation hormones wear off and the grind of everyday life sets in, roadblocks can pop up, communication can break down, and love can turn cold.  Some cut their…

New Hampshire lawmakers working on marijuana legalization legislation met on Tuesday to refine their plan to advance the reform this session, with members of a committee hashing out differences between competing proposals. The intent is to nail down a merged vehicle in a follow-up meeting on Wednesday. The work session of the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs Liquor Subcommittee got started with a decent amount of pushback over the chair’s recently proposed amendment to a legalization bill, HB 639, from Majority Leader Jason Osborne (R) and Minority Leader Matt Wilhelm (D), which has been supported by advocates and industry stakeholders.…

“They can’t be behind closed doors. They have to be open to the public.” By Ray Glier, Georgia Recorder For months, rival companies that want to produce low-THC cannabis oil for medical purposes in Georgia have not been able to pry open the black box of the state’s 2019 Hope Act to see how six firms—out of 69 bidders—were awarded licenses to dispense the marijuana extract to patients across the state. The state’s Open Records Act is so far proving no match for the Hope Act, either. Legislators trying to pry open the process have also been rebuffed. Georgia state…

The White House and key officials are previewing policies and accomplishments of the Biden administration—including marijuana pardons, drug sentencing reform, harm reduction and enhanced drug war enforcement for fentanyl—ahead of the president’s State of the Union address on Tuesday. While it remains to be seen if President Joe Biden will explicitly discuss the cannabis and drug policy issues when he appears before the joint session of Congress, the statements are meant to expand on the basic parameters of the annual speech. If Biden does bring up his cannabis clemency action, it would mark the first time in U.S. history that…

The Virginia Senate on Tuesday approved bills to start adult-use marijuana sales and establish a statewide psilocybin advisory board while moving the psychedelic to a lower schedule under state statute. The adult-use cannabis sales legislation from Sen. Adam Ebbin (D) cleared the full Democratic-controlled chamber in a 24-16 vote. The psilocybin measure, sponsored by Sen. Ghazala Hashmi (D), passed 25-15. They both now head to the GOP-run House of Delegates for consideration. The path to the Senate floor was relatively quick for each proposal, as lawmakers were up against a crossover deadline to advance the legislation to the opposite chamber…

Key Minnesota lawmakers and the governor agree that marijuana should be legalized in the state. But one area where they aren’t exactly aligned is the tax rate for cannabis products. The bill that’s been advancing in House and Senate committees in recent weeks calls for an eight percent marijuana excise tax. Gov. Tim Walz (D) thinks that should be almost doubled, proposing a 15 percent tax as part of his biennial budget request. The legalization legislation has moved through six House committees and four Senate panels, with the tax rate so far unchanged. Rep. Zack Stephenson (D), sponsor of the…

Phil Hanley has a laid back approach to his material, which is more self-deprecating than punching up or down at anyone. Most recently, Hanley financed and produced his latest special, “Ooh La La.” He betted on himself. It paid off and resulted in a brisk, tightly constructed 45 minutes of consistent laughs, both big and small. Hanley, who has plenty of nostalgia for his high school days of dropping acid and skateboarding in Canada, talked to us about his earliest experiences in comedy, the Grateful Dead, and dyslexia. What work went into self-financing and producing your special? Well, I did…

Welcome back, friends.  It’s been a few weeks since I’ve returned to the states now, and while the details are blurring, they were never all that clear in the first place. In that spirit I’m going to run the rest of this chronologically, utilizing the handwritten notes I scribed along the way. The last part ended with our first night, and focused mainly on my excitement about being in Thailand… here’s where we start to dig in. Day Two Our second day in the country began with a bang. A series of them actually. Let me paint the picture real…
